SPARE A THOUGHT FOR RESIDENTS AS RAIL CROSSING PROJECT GETS CABINET GREEN LIGHT

Is this how the proposed new Cleethorpes rail crossing might look?

AN assurance that residents will be allowed their say before construction starts on a new footbridge over the railway line at Suggitt's Lane in Cleethorpes.

The 3.6-million project will replace a pedestrian crossing which has now been closed in the wake of 'incidents' which could have had fatal conserquences.

But the new footbridge could cause overlooking, parking loss and other disruption to Suggitt's Lane residents partcularly those living in the area known locally as Suggitt's Orchard.

North East Lincolnshire Council knows it is vital to keep them sweet in advance of a formal planning application being submitted.

At a meeting of NELC's cabinet,  Cllr Stewart Swinburn promised there would be an "engagement" process.

Comments Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers: "I am delighted that following many months of discussions, the Council have been able to approve a clear plan to resolve the matter.

"While I disagreed with Network Rail’s initial decision, I am grateful to them for helping to reach a conclusion which will allow all residents - whether able-bodied or disabled - to safely cross the railway line at Suggitt's Lane.

"I know this will also be welcome news to local people and the nearby businesses which have been adversely affected by the closure.

"I do not believe this solution would have been reached without the intervention of the Prime Minister who has taken an interest in the matter."

The project is being funded jointly by the Department of Transport and Network Rail.
