PARENTS WILL HAVE RIGHT OF APPEAL OVER ALLOCATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PLACES

Tollbar Academy - frequently a first-preference choice for parents and their children

AN assurance has been given that parents of primary school age children will be able to appeal if they are unhappy over secondary school allocations for the start of the next academic year in September.

Most parents will now have received notification of the allocations.

Of the 1,951 children affected, 88.31 per cent have been offered their first preference school.

The figures for second and third preference were, respectively, 6.92 per cent and 1.69 per cent.

Some 3.08 per cent were not offered any of their preferred schools and will be allocated the next nearest school.

Says Cllr Ian Lindley, North East Lincolnshire Council's portfolio holder for children and education: "The allocation of school places is a complex task and can be an emotive time for families.

"I am happy that the vast majority of pupils have been allocated their first preference.

"To those parents and carers who have not received their preferred school,  they will be sent advice and information on how to appeal."

The local authority’s School Admission Team is available to offer impartial advice to parent/carers and can also advise which local schools still have places available.

It can be contacted on (01472) 326291 (option 4) or via email at schooladmissions@nelincs.gov.uk.
