How long before Grimsby's Corporation Road Bridge re-opens? Who knows. How long is a piece of string?

Making headlines for all the wrong reasons - Corporation Road Bridge 

THERE is still no start date for the resumption of repairs to Grimsby's troubled Corporation Road Bridge.

It was back in May that North East Lincolnshire Council sacked the original contractor, since when it has been seeking to secure a different firm to finish the job.

Its new preferred contractor is Taziker, but agreement on a programme of works - and the projected cost - are the subject of negotiations which are not expected to be concluded until later this month at the earliest.

Even assuming agreement is reached, there is no indication about when Taziker can start work.

In the meantime, NELC has engaged the services of various independent experts to review the quality of the work done by the previous contractor

Worryingly, it says early indications are that there are "defects that require remediation".

The authority says that it is "committed to pursuing appropriate legal recourse should this be necessary".
