Folk - popular destination but there are said to have been unsavoury incidents outside the premises |
PROSPECTS look uncertain for a popular Cleethorpes 'wine-kitchen'.
Since it opened in 2016, Folk, on Cambridge, has built up a loyal clientele who like the friendly, intimate and often lively atmosphere.
Most of the customers are immaculately behaved - but not all.
Incidents of rowdiness outside the premises have been a source of dismay for nearby residents, both on Cambridge Street and on The Knoll.
Says one resident: "Our children cannot sleep on a night time, summer being the worst.
"We sometimes have drunk people banging on our living room windows scaring the children."
Says another: "I have two disabled children whose bedrooms are within 15ft of loud thumping music.
"I have had glasses being smashed on my wall and drugs being taken in my gate area - incidents that have been recorded on a doorbell camera.
"If I feel like nipping to my mum's, I need to make sure I am back early before the clubbing starts so the kids don’t have to walk through all the gross behaviour taking place outside our house."
At a hearing to be held in Cleethorpes Town Hall tomorrow, residents are likely to challenge Folk's application for a new premises licence.
Complainants will have an opportunity to outline their grievances, while licensee Brett Smith will be invited to explain what measure he and his staff will adopt to address the concerns.
It is understood that there had been an attempt to mediate between the two parties, but this failed - hence the need for tomorrow's meeting of North East Lincolnshire Council's licensing committee.
Ward councillor Malcolm Morland (Lab, Croft Baker) is not on the panel, but he has asked to speak at the meeting.
