SOLAR PANELS? PROBABLY YES. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS? WE'LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE

SOLAR panels could soon be installed on the roof of the municipal offices in Grimsby.

North East Lincolnshire Council is determined to reduce its dependence on fossil fuel energy.

The authority is expected to submit a formal application for planning permission within the next few weeks.

Inevitably, NELC is a big energy user  and is continually exploring ways to make itself more energy-efficient and cut costs.

One possible gambit would be to break with tradition by dispensing with illuminations in town centres over the forthcoming festive season.

However, many residents might deem that a step to far.
