PROPOSED 66-BEDROOM CARE HOME AT SCARTHO TOP COULD GENERATE UP TO 60 JOBS

PLANNING consent has been granted for a two-storey  66-bedroom care home to be built on a field off Matthew Telford Park in Grimsby's Scartho Top area.

Leeds-based LNT Care Developments Ltd proposes 27 bedrooms on the ground floor and 39 on the first floor.

The accommodation will also consist of communal and staff facilities such as stores, lounges, kitchens, office, assisted bathrooms, medical rooms and a laundry.

Nearby is the site of  a new Aldi supermarket.

LNT says it enjoys "an excellent reputation" for the quality of care accommodation that it already provides at its 100-plus homes elsewhere in the UK (including one in Lincoln).

In a report, it comments: "This proposal is to provide a local community care facility, the residents of which are expected to emanate from an area no more than three miles from the site but generally closer.

"The development will generate between 50-60 jobs, the majority of which are expected to be offered to suitable candidates from the same local area."

The planning application did not go before North East Lincolnshire Council's planning committee but was determined under delegated powers by case officer Bethany Loring who says: "More care home accommodation  is needed within the area.

"The proposal is of good design and responds to local context and constraints.

"The relationship with neighbours is considered to be reasonable, and matters such as highways and parking have been satisfactorily addressed."

Because the development will result in lost wildlife habitat, there is a planning condition that  a variety of open fronted, small- and large-hole bird boxes should be  installed within the fabric of the building to provide nesting habitat for a range of bird species post-development.

There is also a recommendation for the inclusion of additional sparrow and starling boxes.
