An historic Cleethorpes landmark building is set for major restoration works. Owner of The Mermaid fish restaurant Charles Crawford is keen to bring back the features and elegance of the late 19th Century when the property served as the refreshment room for the adjacent railway station. The Mermaid offers its customers superb views across the Humber Estuary and is a favourite with birdwatchers eager to watch the curlew, oystercatchers and other unusual wading birds. Cleethorpes firm Hodsons has been commissioned to draw up plans for the makeover which is expected to receive planning permission in the coming months.
