Planners turn down Grimsby firm's proposal for small children's care home in Barnoldby-le-Beck

The attractive house in Barnoldby-le-Beck

PLANNERS have turned down a Grimsby firm's proposal to use a semi-detached house  as a children's care home.

The five-bedroomed semi-detached property is on Beck Farm Mews in  Barnoldby-le-Beck.

Gravity Red Inspires sought permission for it to become a residential children's care home for a maximum of three resident children aged between 10 and 17.

Two  non-resident care staff and a house manager would have been  employed.

In its supporting letter, the firm's agents  said: "Gravity Red Inspires is a supported living provider in North East Lincolnshire.

"It is dedicated to providing a nurturing and safe environment for individuals to grow and thrive.

"The staff are passionate about supporting all individuals and providing them with respect, and love.

"They strive to make a positive difference in the lives of the people they serve."

However, several neighbours objected, fearful of antisocial behaviour and a potential dip in the value of their properties.

The applicants maintained that planning permission was not required because there was no material change of use.

However, planners deemed a children's home was not a 'household' in the normal sense of the word.

They therefore refused to grant a Certificate of Lawfulness for the proposal.

If it wants to pursue the scheme, Gravity Red Inspires will now have to lodge an appeal or submit a conventional planning application.
