Helping to ease the sorrow - tea room team serve sympathy as well as cakes and scones

Kindness and cakes! There is friendly welcome for all at crematorium tea room

HATS off to the team at Reflections Tea Room in Grimsby for providing a warm and friendly touch - as well as scrumptious cakes and scones.

Because many customers have just attended a funeral at the adjacent crematorium, they sometimes arrive with sadness in their hearts.

But they can be sure of sympathy and kindness  as they place their orders.

Formerly the disused Crematorium Lodge, Reflections opened in summer two years ago.

It offers a range of hot meals and drinks as well as cakes and sweet treats.

There is also an upstairs meeting room that can be used for meetings, wakes and other gatherings. Among regular users are a book club and a veterans' support group.

Says deputy bereavement services manager, Daniel Intress-Franklin: "In the early days, we had a few teething issues, but now things are going really well.

"Working next to a cemetery means people are sometimes upset when they come in, but everyone here does their best to make them feel welcome."

He adds: "We are not just a business - we are a community asset, too."
