Scores of trees look set for the chop if holiday park project near Tesco superstore is rubber-stamped

The site is home to many magnificent trees

A DATE with the chainsaw beckons for one of the last undisturbed woodlands in North East Lincolnshire.

Eight years after planning consent was granted for a 44-lodge holiday park, off Hewitts Avenue,  just south of Tesco Extra, a developer is keen to move forward on the scheme.

The sad consequence of this is that hundreds of trees will need to be felled and the site cleared, displacing breeding songbirds and other wildlife.

The reason for the long delay on starting the project is that there was a long-running dispute over ownership  of the site, sometimes known as Peak's Covert, but this appears to have been resolved.

North East Lincolnshire planners are currently running a rule over the project before giving the green light to applicant Sean Henderson.

The proposed access to the site would be via construction of a road running off the road that leads to the Northern Power electricity substation.

Peak's covert provides a rich feeding and nesting habitat for warblers and other songbirds

The proposed lay-out of the lodges is indicated in this design submitted by Cleethorpes-based Hodson architects
