Baroness Nici of Grimsby? Will local MP be elevated - courtesy of Boris Johnson - to House of Lords?

GREAT Grimsby Lia Nici could soon learn  if she is likely to be elevated to the peerage.

Political pundits are speculating whether she has been nominated by the former prime minister because of her intense loyalty to him throughout all his tribulations over Partygate and other sleaze allegations.

Nadine Dorries, former Culture Secretary, is another MP being similarly tipped.

However, Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers may have blown his chances after his loyalty to Mr Johnson crumbled in the last days of the latter's premiership.

Although many of her constituents would undoubtedly resent any uplift in status for Ms Nici, it would give Grimsby a welcome voice in the upper chamber.

It would also allow her to stay in politics given that, if current polls are a reliable indicator, it would seem unlikely that she will retain her seat at the next General Election.

The past few months of life at Westminster have been topsy-turvy for Ms Nici.

Before leaving office, Mr Johnson appointed her a minister in the Levelling-up department.

She lost this position when Lizz Truss took the reins, but was appointed a Government whip.

However, it is understood she lost this posting when Rishi Sunak entered Number 10, and she is now no longer a minister.
