What next for civic offices? A hotel, perhaps, or apartments? 

ONE of Cleethorpes best-known properties has been put on the market.

North East Lincolnshire Council chiefs have decided that the vacant Civic Offices building in Knoll Street is surplus to  requirements.

And the authority needs money to strengthen its steadily-depleting coffers after its recent spending spree on property, such as the former House of Fraser store, in Grimsby's Top Town.

It has therefore instructed agents to find a buyer as soon as possible.

The proposed disposal will come as a shock to many - especially those who have memories of working there.

But better for it to have new occupants than to stand empty.

Says the brochure: "This is a substantial three-storey landmark office building with a small basement area and on-site car parking.

"The layout is three wings configured around a central reception area and services area. 

"The office accommodation internally is mainly cellular but capable of being altered if required as most walls are non-loadbearing.

"The property benefits from fitted lighting, gas central heating and wall mounted radiators together with some air conditioning. 

"There is a lift together with PV panels to the roof with security/ fire alarm systems installed.

"The total area is 23,182 sq ft (2,154 sq m)."

The agents entrusted with the sale are PPH Commercial who say: "This is a rare opportunity.

"The property would suit a variety of alternative uses including a hotel/hospitality or residential, subject to planning consent."

The property is being sold freehold.

And the price? It is listed at £1.5-million.
