| Officials celebrate an imminent start on the Scartho school by wielding a giant shovel |
TWO new 210-place primary schools in North East Lincolnshire will be built not by a Grimsby-based contractor but one based on the North Bank .
North East Lincolnshire Council announced today that the contract had been awarded to Hobson & Porter of Hull.
It is not known whether any North East Lincolnshire tendered for the potentially lucrative project or whether H&P's bid was simply the most competitive.
A Hull firm, Spencer, was also awarded the contract to repair Grimsby's Corporation Road bridge.
One of the new schools will be sited close to Matthew Ford Way in Scartho and the other on land off Sunningdale in Waltham.
Enthuses NELC leader Cllr Philip Jackson: "These two schools are much-needed as the population grows.
"Over the coming months, we will start to see things happening on site, and that’s fantastic."
Equally upbeat is Martrin Brown who is the chief executive of Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust, which will be running the schools which will be named Scartho Gateway Academy and Waltham Gateway Academy.
"We are delighted the council has appointed contractors and look forward to the buildings taking shape."
"We are excited about working with partners to create dynamic learning and teaching environments and look forward to welcoming our first children at both academies in September next year
"Much more detail for prospective parents will be revealed very shortly."
For Hobson & Porter, business and development director Joe Booth says: "Winning these two contracts is testament to both our experience working in the education sector and our continued growth across Lincolnshire where we have established a strong and diverse local supply chain.
"We are currently also building the pioneering Grimsby Youth Zone in the town centre."
The Hull firm has not said if it will engage any local labour or sub-contractors for either of the projects.
