AFTER he left parliament in 2015, Austin Mitchell - who had died just a month short of his 87th birthday - never managed to complete his autobiography.
However, some of the highlights of his career as an ITV broadcaster are recorded in his book, Calendar Boy which enjoyed brisk sales in the Grimsby area.
In it, he has an interesting take on another broadcaster of the era, Jimmy Savile.
He wrote: " He appeared on the news programme, Calendar, but there was never any indication that he was anything more than a raving lunatic with tartan hair who posed as Yorkshire's gift to sex.
"Indeed he boasted of his sexual prowess and conquests to such an extent that it made it seemed to me that he was over compensation for not getting any."
