Hats off to Great Coates which has reached the national Britain in Bloom final after East Midlands regional judges were impressed by what they saw when they recently went walkabout in the village! Progress in the competition reflects the efforts not just of villagers keen to showcase their gardens but also 16 volunteers, headed by Mike and Dawn Stewart, who have been keeping communal displays watered, pruned and dead-headed. In gratitude for all that they have achieved, North East Lincolnshire mayor Cllr Steve Beasant and mayoress Sandra Hullett visited the village where the former took the opportunity to plant an oak to mark the 60th anniversary of the Royal Horticultural Society, organisers of the Britain In Bloom competition. Great Coates will have to wait until the end of year to learn how it has fared in the final. Pictured are the mayor and mayoress along with some of the villagers.
