Four decades after her death, has there been breakthrough in Cleethorpes woman murder inquiry?

A 63-year-old man has been arrested as detectives relaunch a murder investigation after receiving new information in connection with the death of a woman in 1983 in Cleethorpes.

On Friday, 10 June, 1983, Olive Wilkinson (36) was found dead having sustained fatal injuries inside her  home on Montague Street.

A murder investigation was launched following her death.

However, despite extensive lines of inquiry and a number of renewed appeals the case has remained unsolved.

A cold case review of the investigation was launched in 2023  after detectives received fresh information in connection with her death.

Following the review, detectives began to explore new lines of enquiry, and, on Tuesday of this week, a man was arrested on suspicion of murder of the divorced mother of two.

He remains in custody pending further inquiries.

Senior investigating officer Det Ch Insp Amy Keane-Christie comments: "The information received has led to an arrest of a man who is a new suspect to the investigation, which originally launched in 1983, into Olive’s murder.

"Her family have been informed and are currently being supported by family liaison officers.

"A team of specialist trained detectives are currently dedicated to reviewing and progressing the investigation.

For most of this week, police have been searching two Cleethorpes locations, one of which is thought to be Humber Street.

Anyone with information is urged to phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or call  101 quoting investigation reference log 69 of 21 May.

Requests for anonymity will be respected.
