The carcase of a sperm whale that washed up on the beach at Humberston in mid-March is now now almost gone - partly as result of decay and partly because its blubber and flesh have been providing easy (and nutritious) pickings for passing gulls and carrion crows. Soon only the skeleton will be left, and maybe the bones will be washed out to sea. Above is a picture taken mid-morning today of the sad creature. Below is one taken on March 13. The cause of its demise may never be known.
