The public notice regarding proposed disposal of tennis court land in Cleethorpes |
NORTH East Lincolnshire Council has clarified its recent publication of a public notice regarding the tennis courts at the Sussex Recreation Ground in Cleethorpes.
It has today issued this statement: "The Public Notice is to enable us to consider representations/objections and - if none received - seek Charity Commission approval ahead of confirming a lease agreement for a proposed tennis court operator.
"Sussex Recreation Ground is the only one out of the three sites undergoing refurbishment that require said notice due to the charitable status of the land."
The statement continues: "NELC announced in August last year that it had secured funding of £255,000 from the Lawn Tennis Association to upgrade courts, including Sussex Recreation Ground.
"The authority is now in the process of appointing an operator."
A report in the Grimsby News suggested that proposed disposal of the land might have resulted in the tennis courts being given over to alternative use.
We are happy to clarify that this is not the council's intention, and we look forward to the courts being upgraded in readiness for the return of tennis.
