| Leafy - plenty of greenery is proposed for the development |
THE planning green light has been given for a major housing development in Grimsby town centre.
North East Lincolnshire Coucil confirmed late yesterday that it had granted consent for the project on a 2.3-hectare riverside site off Garth Lane in the centre of Grimsby.
The authority's leadership see the scheme as crucial to regeneration of the town centre.
The proposal submitted by Keepmoat Homes is for 100 houses, a 20-flat apartment block and three shops.
In her report, senior NELC planner Cheryl Jarvis says: "This residential-led scheme will provide much needed housing to meet local need.
"Moreover, it will provide visual enhancements to the site and reconnect it in a positive manner with the waterfront.
"A new commercial element will provide a feature to the south-east corner onto the public realm.
"Ongoing and extensive discussions have taken place in relation to the scheme particulars and its impacts on the local area and the environment.
"No objections have been received from key consultees and a number of concerns raised by neighbours have been addressed through further information and amendments."
It is not known when construction work will start.
Above and below are a selection of 'visuals' which have been submitted to support the proposal.
