Go-ahead for project expected soon |
PROPOSALS to install a giant illuminated palm tree art work on North Promenade, Cleethorpes, are expected to be approved shortly - possibly as soon as later this month.
Although concerns have been sounded about potential vandalism, there have been no strong objections to the North East Lincolnshire Council initiative.
Following discussions with Natural England, the artificial palm - 60ft tall - is likely to be located further away from the rock armour groyne than originally planned.
This is to reduce risk of light disturbance to wading birds, such as redshank, curlew, knot and turnstone, which feed and roost on or around the groyne - known, because of its distinctive shape, as the whale’s tail.
Good site for a snooze - roosting redshank |
And good place for a preen-up - juvenile herring gulls |
