57 VARIETIES - THE SPECIAL GROUP THAT BANGS THE DRUM FOR ENGLISH SEASIDE COUNCILS

North East Lincolnshire Council is one of 57 local authorities which has signed up to a 'special interest group' of coastal councils. Their aim is to "champion and represent the collective interests of coastal, estuarine and maritime communities by increasing awareness and debate on environmental, economic and social issues at all levels". It works in partnership with other organisations with corresponding aims and seeks to bring pressure on Whitehall to ensure the seaside does not miss out on funding. Since September 2019, the lead authority has been South Tyneside Council. Parent body is the Local Government Association. The group's next meeting is at the LGA's London HQ on December 3.
