PLANNERS have approved continued use of a first-floor bedroom at Immingham's County Hotel as a private taxi hire office.
The project went ahead without NELC consent but this has now been granted following submission of a retrospective planning application.
In support of his proposal, applicant Willie Weir said: "In the last three months we have rung six taxi firms to try and get members of the public a taxi home or to work - but to no avail.
"We support safer communities, and I feel that some people are placing themselves in danger by not been able to get home safely by taxi.
"On one occasion, three ship crew had to walk from the County Hotel to the dock as they couldn't get a taxi.
"This is now becoming a regular occurrence within Immingham."
