START EXPECTED SOON ON LUXURY APARTMENTS PROJECT FOR FORMER BINGO HALL SITE

The apartments will  have impressive views over Cleethorpes and across the estuary

THERE are hopes of a start soon on a proposed luxury development on Cleethorpes seafront.

Since March 2016, there has been a planning consent for a total of 99 apartments on land once occupied by the long- demolished Clifton bingo hall site.

But nothing has happened, resulting in the 2,700 sq m site becoming a sort of unofficial nature reserve where plants such as sea buckthorn and buddleia  thrive.

However, it has emerged that Kieran Sheedy (59) and Susan Morris (56), of London-based Cielo Realty, are keen to get cracking on the ambitious project which would consist of three separate buildings - one of 13 storeys, one of 11 storeys and one of nine storeys.

Underneath would be space for parking and retail units, plus landscaping.

A report seen by the Grimsby News, states: "This is not only an exciting development, it is a complex one.

"The site is on a slope which, together with the underground car park, will require a specialist engineering solution for the design of the foundations.

"Its proximity to the seafront and to Cleethorpes Railway Station pose other construction challenges, and the cost will be significant as befits a landmark development to be built to a high specification.

"The construction works are expected to take at least three years to complete.

"Only substantial and experienced contractors have the capacity and capability of undertaking this project."

It is understood that certain preliminary work, such as preparations for drainage,  will be carried out by Nottingham-based Clegg Construction Ltd.

The development is expected to take at least three years to complete
