Council says proposed balcony extension of seafront 'feature' building will open up Pier Gardens vistas

How the building is likely to look once it is built and  open for business

A RE-JIG has been revealed for the proposed new hospitality-and-leisure building opposite the pier on Cleethorpes seafront.

It was confirmed today that the designs have been amended to incorporate a second-floor balcony extension at the rear of the property.

The purpose is to create further external space and allow views both of  Alexandra Road and of the northern end of Pier Gardens which has itself also been earmarked for a revamp.

Says North East Lincolnshire Council: "The second-floor balcony extension will allow the space below to become a semi-protected, sunny space for outside eating and entertainment.

"Out of season, it will face away from any stiff breezes blowing up the Humber,  and, facing south-west, it will benefit from the afternoon sun."

The doors to the balcony will be power-operated, and it will be fully wheelchair-accessible.

There is still no word from NELC about the prospective contractor for the project, but it understood one was lined up as far back as April this year.

The council is also keeping under its hat the name of the company it says it has signed up to operate what it believes will be a 'feature' building.

Construction of the building has been held up while an issue involving underground gas mains is resolved
