Could apart-hotel project open new chapter for two long-empty houses on gateway road into resort?

 

The long-empty houses on Isaac's Hill - will a new broom sweep clean?


A DEVELOPMENT company based in Stoke-on-Trent should learn next week if it will be given the go-ahead to breathe new life into two adjoining properties on an  entrance route to Cleethorpes to 'apart-hotels'.

The applications  by Robertson Properties to convert numbers 49 and 51 Isaac's Hill are  due to be determined by North East Lincolnshire Council's planning meeting on the morning of Wednesday August 7.

A supporting statement from the agent reads: "The owner will advertise rooms on Booking.com and Airbnb, as well as reaching out to windfarm operatives and the Humber Bank industries for any contractors that might be needing short-term serviced accommodation.

"The apartments will also be available to any  visiting doctors or specialist nurses.

"There will be a dedicated website ready for bookings and the owners will be talking to local residents and businesses to encourage word of mouth recommendations. 

"As catering will not be offer on site, contact will be made with local independent catering businesses that serve breakfasts and dinners to see if a collaboration can be made to encourage our guests to eat locally and support the area's economy.

"For all guests, a passport or driving licence will need to be presented for registration

"Twenty-four hours before they are due to arrive, they will be sent a code for the entrance door (this will be able to be changed remotely) as well as directions and any other information they may need to know regarding their stay. 

"A few hours before arrival they will be sent their own door number and code which will be changed as soon as they check out.

"A swipe card system on their doors similar to larger hotels, is also being considered to see which will be the best way forward." 

The statement continues: "A local cleaning company will be employed to ensure all rooms are cleaned to an exceptional standard before stays and mid-clean stays for longer term guests. 

"Written instructions will be compiled as part of a check list to ensure everything is done to our satisfaction. 

"There will be a part time manager/handyman on site part of everyday who will ensure that any repairs needed are carried out immediately."

However, some residents have misgivings about the proposal, fearing that, if approved, it will result in increased parking pressure in the vicinity.

There is also a concern that, ultimately, the accommodation might deteriorate and attract less desirable occupants.

Both applications are being recommended for approval by the planning case officer.
