THE sandpit near Cleethorpes boating lake is set for a makeover.
Offshore windfarm company Ørsted has awarded a grant of £14,720 to payment for "improvements".
It's a great Christmas present for director Nathan Taylor and his team at the Community Interest Company that oversees the pit along with the ajacent taphouse and kitchen plus the cafe/libraries at Humberston and at Grant Thorold Park in Grimsby.
There is also an award from the Danish windfarm company for the West Marsh Development Trust's Household Support for Ukrainian Refugees (£4,336).
Meanwhile, a grant of £12,408 has been awarded to Keelby Sports Association's solar panels and battery storage, project.
On the other side of the Humber, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is beneficiary to the tune of £16,000 for new solar provision at Spurn (to be shared with Flamborough).
The monies will all come out of the latest round of payments from the Ørsted Community Benefit Fund.
Says the company's community fund manager, Imran Nawaz: "It is great to see the successful awards for this round.
"Community is so important to Ørsted, and being able to give back to our local area is a high priority for us.
"A huge thanks to all the organisations for all your incredible work in helping us all love our home."
The fund is administered by a national charity, GrantScape.
There are two application rounds each year for groups to apply to, and the next closing date is 31 January 2024.
