REVAMPED CEMETERY LODGE WILL BE HOME TO COUNCIL'S NEW NO-FRILLS FUNERAL SERVICES

RESTORATION is in prospect for an important Grimsby building - the 19th Century  Scartho Cemetery Lodge.

North East Lincolnshire Council has announced that, over the next 18 months to two years, it intends to restore the lodge and bring it back into use.

The building and adjacent waiting room have stood empty by the cemetery gates for about 15 years.

According to NELC cabinet member Cllr Stewart Swinburn, the restored lodge will become the venue for our the authority's proposed "Simple Funerals" service.

"Simple Funerals are a relatively new concept where the council provides a dignified yet affordable funeral service for bereaved families,"he explains.

Total cost of the project is put at £673,000.

* At the nearby Crematorium Lodge, the interior is being transformed into the "Reflections Tea Room" which is due to open in summer. It is not yet known if this will be run by NELC or by an external catering firm.
