COUNCIL UNVEILS PLAN TO EXTEND CLEETHORPES CEMETERY ON TO ADJACENT PLAYING FIELD

A superb display of primroses is always a feature of the cemetery during April

A PROPOSED extension of Cleethorpes Cemetery is expected to provide space for hundreds more graves.

With the town's population expanding, North East Lincolnshire Council is looking to the future.

It has earmarked part of  the Trinity Road playing fields for the project.

This site  is located adjacent to the existing cemetery's southern  boundary and to the rear of residential properties located on Penshurst Road and Sandringham Road.

A report states: "It is the responsibility of NELC to create capacity at locations where this is physically possible in advance of absolute need so that delays to funerals and burials are minimised."

Assuming the scheme goes ahead, the existing cemetery area will expand from 9.4 hectares to 10.9 hectares.

The extension would be served by newly installed infrastructure by means of a connecting service road.

Extension in prospect to match growing population
