Loads-a-cars! Ports giant earmarks Stallingborough farm fields for new multi-vehicle storage compound

The greenfield site proposed for development

ANOTHER vast car storage compound could soon be developed  on the outskirts of Grimsby.

Ports giant ABP is seeking to pave over 96 acres of farmland off Kiln Lane, Stallingborough Interchange to create storage for many hundreds of imported cars prior to their distribution to dealerships across the length and breadth of Britain.

It says the project will create numerous jobs - firstly an unspecified number  during the construction phase, then 150 during operation.

Also part of the scheme is a 5.4-acre solar park in one corner of the site to meet overall energy needs.

ABP reckons its proposed investment will bring about  £21.4-milion into the regional economy during the construction phase, then an estimated £7.6-million per annum once operational.

What about the impact on the range of birds and other wildlife - the area is a hotspot for bats of various species - that have long lived on this land?

ABP's agents say there will be "comprehensive" landscaping around the boundaries and verge  planting incorporate to "a robust native mix of species".

It says that lighting will be of a sort that does not displace foraging bats and owls.

The proposal is only at the outline stage, and more discussions with experts will be required before North East Lincolnshire Council planners are ready to rubber-stamp any final application.

NELC's heritage officer Louise Jennings has indicated that parts of the site are of archaeological interest and require further assessment.

Happy New Year to all constituents from Grimsby and Cleethorpes MP Melanie Onn (and her dogs!)

Grimsby and Cleethorpes MP Melanie posted this delightful Boxing Day photograph of her relaxing with her two golden retrievers (or are they labradors?) near the leisure centre on Central Promenade. Because so much of her time is spent in Westminster, the MP does not see as much of Corbyn and Starmer (not their real names) so she cherishes any opportunity to take them for a run and splash on the tideline.

BMW car dealership plans to move up a gear with revamped showroom at its Laceby premises

A rejig is in prospect for the BMW car retail dealership off Grimsby Road in Laceby. Planning permission is being sought from North East Lincolnshire Council  for internal configuration and external alterations to the main showroom plus construction of a detached valet and wash bay to the rear.
